Countless creations and hours of fun have been made with these wooden blocks over the years, and our collection of building toys just keeps growing. Our spacious block room is the perfect place for students to build their fine and gross motor skills while unleashing their imaginations, especially when the weather doesn't permit outside play. Whether they are taking walks, using our playground, or even learning something new, our students enjoy being outside in the crisp fall air and sunshine! Welcome to the new students in our Kindergarten Enrichment Program! These students arrived on the District 57 Bus after their morning Kindergarten class. Everyone was excited for the first day! Our Kindergarten Enrichment Program is offered in the morning and afternoon to supplement students' kindergarten day with hands-on, inquiry-based science units. Session Three starts Monday, July 21. Cooking and Water continue, and we add three new camps: Science, Amazing Race and Passport to Fun.  The Blue Class has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our butterflies. Over the past few weeks, we watched the caterpillars grow and become chrysalises. They are now beginning to hatch! We planted a garden containing sunflowers, grass, and a bean plant. We also created all the insects to go in it! Also: Check out our bodies (we measured, traced our bodies, then designed, cut out and painted them) hanging in the hall outside of the church
Summer School forms have gone home... this year's theme is about Noah and his ark. Students will do art and science projects about rainbows. Each child will complete their own Rainbow Book to take home. We are limited to 40 total students for this session, so please make sure to turn your registration form in early. You can find a copy of the registration for summer school here. Lunch Bunch and Extended Day Programs are available throughout Summer School for an additional charge.
 Last week we read the story Not a Box! by Antoinette Portis. Then we used the boxes we collected to make what the children would collectively decided on making. We ended up with castles, cars, and a robot! It was fun watching their creativity and imagination at work. Have a great Spring Break!
We have started our unit on Construction in the yellow class. We were architects and drew plans to build a rocket. We are painting the huge boxes and putting it together after break. Our letter of the week was U. We laid on our back under the table. We looked up and colored the letter U.
Purple Class - Kindergarten Enrichment
We just finished up a unit on healthy bodies. We learned about keeping our teeth healthy by remembering the number 2. Brush 2x a day for 2 minutes and visit the dentist 2x a year. We talked about healthy foods and exercise. The unit ended with the children making their own first aid kits. Next week starts construction. On a side note, some of us built a really cool robot named Wobbly! |
