Each child will complete their own Rainbow Book to take home. We are limited to 40 total students for this session, so please make sure to turn your registration form in early. You can find a copy of the registration for summer school here. Lunch Bunch and Extended Day Programs are available throughout Summer School for an additional charge.
Purple Class - Kindergarten Enrichment
We just finished up a unit on healthy bodies. We learned about keeping our teeth healthy by remembering the number 2. Brush 2x a day for 2 minutes and visit the dentist 2x a year. We talked about healthy foods and exercise. The unit ended with the children making their own first aid kits. Next week starts construction. On a side note, some of us built a really cool robot named Wobbly! This week we have been learning about our 5 senses. We played Sound Bingo, did some taste testing, walked in our stocking feet on different textures in the block room, sniffed a variety of scents & painted blindfolded. Highlighting our week, we led a blindfolded partner around the classroom using verbal cues and holding hands to help our friend navigate the room. We experienced what it would be to be without our sense of sight. Also this week we traced our bodies and began painting them to look like us.
Coming up…..Construction. Tune in to see what structures we will build! Sochi, Russia wasn't the only place bursting with Olympic spirit. Here at St. Mark's the Yellow Class, the Blue Class and Purple Kindergarten Enrichment class all celebrated the 2014 Olympics.
Yellow Class 4's The Yellow Class had an incredible "gold medal" day. They talked about the different sports they've seen and the different flags of some of the countries. They participated in (modified) speed skating, while their classmates chanted, "USA!" Each student stepped up on the podium to receive their gold medal in their chosen sport. Blue and Purple Class KE Kindergarten Enrichment finished up a unit on the Olympics. They had lots of fun making “Olympians” out of clothespins and popsicle sticks. We also had events like skating, luge and skeleton in the classroom and gym. Everyone received a gold medal. Coming up next is Healthy bodies which includes a visit from a dental hygienist. After the success of our first open house, we have decided to hold a second, mini open house for families that may not have been able to make it to the first one. This Saturday, February 22nd from 10 - 11:30 you are invited to come, explore the school, meet the teachers and the children are invited to participate in hands on projects which will highlight our new curriculum program focusing on creative and critical thinking.
Registration will be accepted at this time for both the preschool programs and the Kindergarten Enrichment Program. We hope to see you there! |
